CEBU: My Brief Flirtation with a Queen City

Image
However brief my stint at Cebu was, I was able to see why people call this uber city the Queen City of the South and why the Cebuanos are proud of their origin. Cebu is where one can find the old and the new, the heritages of our past as well as the markers of a rapidly growing locale. It is also the gateway to other tourist destinations in the Visayas . Within the short hours of our stay there, we've been to some of the well-known historic sites in the metro city and met several different individuals, from taxi drivers to souvenir vendors and ladies selling candles and performing the prayer dance--all of them have been very cordial and accommodating to us. These short encounters left me yearning for more. The DIY tipid tourists: Lhei, biyahera and Pyke (Squall took the pic) We went to Cebu for our Bohol tour--about which, I will rave in my next post (*smiles*). But instead of going straight to Tagbilaran, we dropped by in Cebu first. Being the budget travelers that we were, we tho

(pls. click on picture for larger view) After a filling meal at Balinsasayaw in Silang, Cavite (previous post) , girlfriends and I decided to continue our afternoon rendezvous at one of the highly recommended foodie and coffee-lover locations in Tagaytay, one whose name has gained an increasing following already. That morning my college girlfriends (blocmates) decided to meet for lunch, we came to the inevitable part when we are stumped with the question of where to dine. All we know is that we'd like to have it in Tagaytay, or somewhere near Tagaytay, so that there is still that feel of being in a weekend get-away. We haven't seen each other for a long time and we all seem to deserve the long afternoon break. Eden--our pretty and exceptional driver--was the first to suggest BALINSASAYAW , as per the recommendation of her "friend" :). Balinsasayaw @ Silang, Cavite (pls. click pictures for larger view) "Di ba sa Palawan yan?" was our instant reaction. Little did we know (or perhaps I know very little about Cavite hehe) that there really is a Balinsasayaw in Silang, Cavite situated just along the roadside of the national highway. Hence, we, five exc
